January Winds Bring Hot Fishing

Redfish and snook

Redfish and Snook anglers Caught guided by Capt. Kyle Kelso of Dream Catcher Charters

Get out of the cold wherever you are and come to the Florida Keys for some great fishing action and awesome weather. Perfect temps make for the best vacations getaway here in the Florida Keys. Whether you stay in Key Largo Islamorada or Key West there is plenty to do and some incredible fishing to get into. the Jet Stream has pulled up her skirt so those nasty cold fronts are leaving South Florida and The Florida Keys alone.:)

For The Rod Benders..

Backcountry Fishing is king. With a copious amount of bait flushing throughout the Florida Keys these past couple of weeks the backcountry is lit up. its not hard to understand why this is our most popular fishing charter here. Trout, Pompano, Redfish, Snook, Snappers, Cobia, shark and big barracudas are the cast of characters and they are eating well. Rod bending fun is the name of the game here. You Florida Keys Fishing guide will keep you hooked up and smiling. The fishing has been very goo with folks catching fish after fish casting, jigging and live baiting. We expect the great fishing to continue in the backcountry all the way through the end of the month.

The Reef is also a great place to bend a rod. With the recent South Easterly winds things have been a little sporty out there with some chop but folks are definitely filling the dinner plates with an incredible assortment of snappers and mackerel. You will not go home hungry after fishing the reef this tim of the year. Just watch your weather and talk to your captains about the day you have chosen especially if you get sea sick..

For The Technical Fisher-persons..

Flats fishing in the winter here is amazing. The temps, the color, the big fish… It all goes together. In Key West we have been getting a very early season push of tarpon. All up and down the Florida Keys the Permit are showing up on the flats in good numbers. Bonefish are a little scarce but… Redfish are picking up the slack offering our anglers some really fun fishing on light tackle.

Offshore deep sea fishing the sailfish are on the prowl but not in huge numbers just yet. Look for those cold fronts in February with the hard NE winds and cooler temps.. The blackfin tuna are the talk of the Florida Keys Fishing as they are all over the place on the deeper wrecks and humps. We are catching blackfin tunas in the 20 – 30 lb range. Another under sung hero of the offshore world is the Kingfish. the kings are here with their buddies the Cero and Spanish Mackerel. Kingfish up to 45 lbs are being reported off of Key West in good numbers. Cero mackerel up to 9 lbs and lots of fun on light tackle. For the technical angler this is a great time to get out there and try for an IGFA world record on light tackle.
