Tarpon Still Thick, Flats Backcountry Producing Well
June 19 2014 – The heat has set in here in the Florida Keys setting up for a typical Tropical June. The June full moon is behind us and we look forward to the nice flats fishing with new moon flows coming up next week.
Tarpon fishing is rocking up and down the Florida Keys. This week is the Gold Cup tarpon tournament where angler try their skill at a tarpon using a fly rod. So that tells you that they are certainly around and thats no lie. In Key West the guys at Dream Catcher Charters have been hitting tarpon every day in the backcountry shallows using live baits and artificial such as the Hogy 7″ original lure. Early morning is the best time for the fly rod as it is cooler and the fish are more receptive. The top of the day is hot but using darker colors seems to keep the bite going. The upper Florida Keys the bridges are still working well early morning and late evening.
On the flats we are seeing a good amount of bonefish and permit down in Key West. I have seen lots of early season bonefish this year and excited about our possibilities. The upper Florida Keys are reporting some bonefish on the ocean side flats.
The backcountry waters are still full of fun fish to fish for. The upper Keys reports good red fishing and snook bite in the National Park. In Key West we are into the deeper water tarpon in the backcountry with a nice mix of sharks and barracudas to keep people entertained. Check out the All In Wonder fishing charter that Dream Catcher Charters offers that gets you to the backcountry and to the shallow water patch reefs to catch some dinner as well.
Come see why the Florida Keys are such a great place to go fishing..
