Cobia Fishing in Key West

March 23rd 2015 – Generally when you ask a seasoned Florida Keys fishing guide what the weather is typically like in March, we kinda cringe, turn up a lip and say… “Snotty” or “Sporty” or just plain “Windy”. It all means the same. March blows hard every year, except this one. If “Climate Change” means we have great weather in March, Ill take it.

Down in the Lower Keys and Key West the Inshore backcountry and flats fishing has been amazing with a tarpon fishing bite in Key West that is the best I have seen in 20 years. My boats at Dream Catcher Charters are all pushing double digit hook ups daily both in the morning and the afternoon trips. For those that want more out of a day than just battling a Silver King up to 100 lbs. the flats fishing has offered us some amazing permit and barracudas in the shallows. The bonefish are not super plentiful just yet but they are around and able to be fished for in the middle and upper Keys. Capt. Chris Duncan one of our colleagues here in the Florida Keys has been reporting some nice laid up tarpon with large bonefish scattered throughout the Big Pine Key area.

On the All In Wonder trip my anglers and I have been hitting the tarpon fishing first thing then moving out to the Marquesas Keys for some fun action in the channels or on the flats. The shallow water wrecks have been holding some nice permit and Cobia for my anglers.. Check It out. The Inshore All In Wonder fishing charter that is a signature trip that I started doing back in the late 90’s and has become more and more popular with bookings through the month of May and June. Fish the flats, backcountry and reef all in one trip. Have the chance to catch over 20 species of fish on this trip. 8 and 10 hour days are available. Call 1-305-292-7212 to learn more..

Speaking with Capt. Matt of Bamboo charters in Islamorada he says the big trout are in the backcountry with permit on the flats. Shark fishing is fun and easy for anglers to get hooked up on bulls, lemons and frighteningly large hammerheads. There is always action to be had especially with this weather says Capt. Matt.

With many of our backcountry fishing charters we can also offer a chance to fish the reefs up and down the Florida Keys. This adds to the versatility of such an already great trip.

Booking a backcountry fishing charter right now is a little dicey as we do have some availability left but not allot. 4 and 6 hour trips are still available up and down the Florida Keys. Call Island Genn at 1-305-292-7212
