Reef Bite Is Out Of Control

Yellowtail snapper
Nice Yellowtail snappers caught in Key West reef fishing with Capt. Steven Lamp

November 1st 2016 – The weather finally chilled down and made the Florida Keys the happiest place on Earth. Where else can you go in a free country and catch a bunch of fish, have a really fun day, take your catch to local restaurant and feast?

The Florida Keys reef fishing bite this week has been epic! on fire, off the chain, through the roof or however you want to say it. Even in the stronger winds we have been showing up with some great catches of reef fish like mutton snappers, yellowtails and the last of Grouper season. Lets not forget that we are also into some really good cero mackerels out there too on the reef fishing bite.

With copious amounts of bait like bally hoo EVERYWHERE we are seeing exactly why these fish are on the feed and getting fat and happy. All along the shore lines and patch reefs there are massive amounts of white bait too. Snappers love all the above and they get pretty stupid when the feed bag is on. We use artificial lures to catch our muttons and yellowtail snappers. We find that the artificial lures are better at catching larger fish and culling out the little guys.

The last of grouper season 2016 is upon us. December 31st is the last day. The grouper bite has been pretty good this year with some nice reds and black groupers caught. There are still plenty of grouper out there so get out and get your grouper on!

We are booking reef fishing charters for those that can handle the winds. Otherwise backcountry fishing has been most popular.
