November 11th 2017 – Get your tasty reef fish now in Key West. November is a strong month for reef fishing Key West. Mostly due to the massive amounts of bait that are holding up on the surface but partly because of the cooler temperatures of the water as the transition between summer and winter take place here. Now is the time to book your Florida Keys Fishing Guide for a great day on the water.

One of the best baitfish ever – The ballyhoo are on the reef in the droves. This is making the reef fishing bite off of Key West absolutely awesome. We have not had to travel far to show our anglers a great day of filing the box with nice yellowtail snapper and some mutton snapper. Heck, this weekend and last we even put some American Red snappers in the box for an even better mix of incredible food fish. Don’t forget its also grouper season too. We are catching some nice red grouper this time of the year before the season closes in January. Check out our Florida Keys fishing seasons calendar to see what you might get into while you are here.

The cooler water temps are really bringing in the nice food fish along with the bait for them to eat. We use mostly artificial lures to catch the nicer sized yellowtails and muttons and sometimes we troll for the grouper with lipped plugs like the Rapala X Rap 30. I prefer a darker color on the really bright days or the red head and white body first thing in the morning. in my experiences using the artificial lures keeps my anglers busy and catching fish. Larger fish. its takes a fish with attitude and size to tackle a 6 inch plug and he is going to fight you for it. I like to use a really good casting spinning rod like a proteus series from Daiwa with a Saltiga spinning reel loaded with Samurai braided line. A really good direct connection that will allow my anglers to really feel the hit and switch to the fight quickly.

We offer 4,6 and 8 hour reef fishing experiences on board our bay boats and our 36ft Yellowfin Center Console “Too Intense” here at Dream Catcher Charters in Key West. If you would like to fish in the upper Keys we have some talented fishing guides up there as well that we can recommend to you for your day on the water. Just give us a call and we will set you up.
