Key West tarpon season is in full swing. Time to get on the water and chase the silver king.
April 21 2019 – A few days after the April full moon and we are always talking about tarpon here in Florida Keys Fishing. The full moon of April was Friday night and in addition to that we get a cold front as a double daily bonus. The moon phase and North winds are probably the two things that will shut off a good tarpon bite.. Good news we got them both on the same day so they kinda cancel each other out. Today it was 68 and sunny with a forecast of things to get warmer.

Florida Keys Tarpon Fishing.
It’s a tradition that spans way before me, the annual migration of tarpon marching through the Florida Keys and Key West. May generally marks the beginning of the migration where masses of fish slide through our Chanels over our flats and around our islands in search of Love. Daisy chaining along the beaches sniffing some butts just like dogs.
Sight fishing Fly fishermen and spin fishermen line up along the edges and on the Beach to put their offerings in front of one of these prehistoric fish in hopes of some attention. Here in the Florida Keys its the time of the year that fishing guides make a substantial portion of their living, booked solid every day and sometimes twice a day. Helping anglers live out the dream of catching a Silver King.
The migration will last about two months. However the tarpon fishing will still be outstanding throughout the summer and into the fall along all of the smiling islands of the Florida Keys. Tarpon fishing in the Florida Keys has pretty much become a year round thing these days. Warm days = good tarpon fishing.
So.. its tarpon fishing season here in the Florida Keys.. The fish are pretty much everywhere from Key Largo to Key West. Sizes range between 60 and 150 lbs this time of the year. Right now the best bet is for Spin fishing for them with live bait or artificials such as Hogy Lures. Fly fishermen will do best toward the end of the month and all through May and June.
