August 13th 2015 – We are on a new moon let it be known the snapper bite is On!  Up and down the Florida Keys reefs snappers  of most species are chewing really well. Thats muttons, mangrove and yellowtail snapper. Delicious across the board and such a pretty well deserved kill box when you bring in a limit of those tasty critters to go along side a nicely buttered Florida Keys lobster tail. Yum!

A huge fan favorite of most Florida Keys fishing visitors is the Yellowtail snapper. I have not gotten a report from up the Keys but down here in Key West fishing at Dream Catcher Charters we are CRUSHING the larger yellowtails sight fishing in the shallow reef fishing areas with artificial lures. A runaway train hit followed by a drag burning run. On my trips fishing off Key West we have been able to catch many fish over 3 lbs and several in the 5 and 6 lb range.

Patch reefs and outer reefs are holding your best shots for mangrove snappers. In the snapper world we call the mangrove snapper the dark meat of snapper. A blend of white meat met with a good fleshy texture. Incredible table fare. These fish are at the end of their spawning period and mangrove snapper approaching the 8 lb mark are being reported. Your reef fishing guides will take you to their favorite spots to whack these tasty Keys fish.

If going to the reef bothers you with the possibility of seasick. Get with one of our backcountry fishing guides and they will also put you on a great snapper bite in the calmer waters of the Florida Keys. The mangrove snappers and mutton snappers are everywhere here in the Keys and the backcountry fishing guides really know where to find them.

Booking a reef fishing guide for snapper fishing charter is easy. We have a dozen ways to get you on the bite and affordably. Private charters are the most common ways to get out there and have some fun. Groups of up to 6 persons can hire one of our reef fishing boats and go for it.

For the budget we also have a split charter that heads out of Key West where 2 of you can share a 32ft center console reef fishing boat with 2 other people for just 350.00. Thats two persons for 350.00 on the reef catching some snappers for a 4 hour day.

For those that don’t mind more people and a larger boat. Try our Florida Keys Party Boats. At 65.00 per person with rods and reels included this is a great way to get on the water and catch a few fish and have a great day.
