Beat the Winter Blues with a school of Redfish January 13 2011

If this Winter has you blue and chilled, the quick cure is a fight with a school or to of Florida Keys Redfish!  Winter fishing for Redfish really heats things up on the flats and in the deep run-outs that can be found in the backcountry waters of the Florida Keys and the Everglades National Park.

Redfish on light tackle at its best in Islamorada Florida.

Light tackle fishing for these fighters is a challenge on 6-8 pound spinning gear spooled with 10 lb test Suffix 832 Braid.  We use a mix of live shrimp and shrimp imitations to hunt down these bad boys.  Worked low and slow is the secert to success as Redfish will hold bottom as they rummage around the mud and grass bottom looking for a easy meal. Redfish will eat a wide mix of baits so top water plugs are a great choice to work the flats and edges as we drift along with the tide.
