February 25 2024 – It seems the weather has given us a reprieve. Moderate conditions prevail with a nice looking forecast in our future with moderate Easterly and South Easterly winds. The sailfish are stacking up from Key Largo To Key West. If sailfish is on your bucket list this may be the time to target them.

Fishing Report

The deep sea fishing charters in the Florida Keys and Key West have been reporting a good number of sailfish being caught this last week just outside and on top of the reef lines. The sailfish have been pushing down from the East Coast for the last few weeks rounding around Miami then giving the Key Largo fishermen a real treat with some very large release numbers. There have been a good number of flags flying on the sail fishing charters. We have heard of some boats that focus on them releasing over 30 sailfish in a day.

Deep sea fishing charters are the best way to target sailfish here in the Florida Keys. Many captains will use live bait and kite fishing techniques. Thread-fin, goggle eyes, small blue runners and live ballyhoo are the bait of choice. Often it takes up some charter time to catch the bait but can be very successful. Trolling is also effective. Trolling ballyhoo at various speeds will get the bite as well and covers a bit more ground.

The deep sea fishing fleet of the Florida keys is experiencing a slower than average booking season this year due to the more complicated economy. Therefore the fleet has holes in their schedules that would not normally be there this time of the year. Last minute trips are very possible to get out on your perfect day of fishing.
