Redfish, Snook and Sea Trout in the backcountry of the Everglades. Jan 26, 2012

Winter temps here in the Florida Keys range from lows in the mid 50’s to highs in the low 80’s and so far this year this Winter has been a warm one. This warm trend has kept the waters of the backcountry very comfortable for the fish we love to catch here at Bamboo Charters. Capt. Tony Melton operates our 24 foot Pathfinder bay boat and loves showing people the unique environment that the Everglades has to offer, oh and he sure can put them on the catch!
Using light spinning tackle and a mix of live shrimp and shrimp look a likes such as Gulp! shrimp and D.O.A. shrimp Capt. Tony guides his clients to catches of a varied mix of trout in the channels and basins that surround the Flamingo area of the ‘Glades. Snook and Redfish can be caught along the edges of flats and on rising tides Tony will drift the deeper flats and have his anglers cast to pushing fish and to the many potholes that dot the flats. The trout run 14 to 22 inches and put on a great fight and they are found in huge schools which make sea trout a great fish to introduce new fishermen to. The Reds and Snook can vary in size from 18 to 33 inches and are prized for their fight and put up quite a challenge on light tackle.
