Its TARPON Time.. ? Well not quite yet.. but, we can start thinking about it here in Key West because “The Boys Are Back In Town” that means the big bruiser tarpon we get out of the Gulf of Mexico in our winter months are here. These are brown back fish, really big and frankly they have attitude problems.

Key West Tarpon Fishing Report.. goes like this. Scattered fish are in the channels and runs between the island chains here in Key West. We are seeing some pretty big schools and today we had some good eats. Now, these fish are not rolling like traditional fish do.. They are what we call bottom huggers. They come in here and lay up on the bottom. With the strong winds we have had they need not roll too much to gain the needed oxygen they require so they just hang out. Our challenge is to get our live baits to them and entice them to dine.

We did see some beasts roll today and jumped one off. That said.. We still will not book a “tarpon fishing” charter yet with tarpon being the sole purpose of your fishing charter with us here at Dream Catcher Charters. We will give it a shot and you might get that day where they are chewing off the hook.. but.. just a couple more weeks and we will be good to go.

I think that we should be ok (weather staying like it is) to book tarpon trips for the tail end of February this year. All the signs are setting up for a great early season.
